Our 4-year Heavy Automotive Engineering Apprenticeship provides hands-on experience working with some of the world’s most advanced machinery while completing a NZ Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering – Plant and Equipment (Level 3 & 4)
You’ll gain practical skills from industry experts, train in world-class facilities, and be supported throughout your apprenticeship by a dedicated development team.

About the qualification
NZ Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering – Plant and Equipment (Level 3 & 4)
This qualification prepares individuals to service, repair and maintain mobile plant machinery used in construction, mining, agriculture and civil infrastructure.
This qualification develops skills in:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems
- Servicing engines, transmissions, steering, suspension and braking systems
- Maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Conducting fault diagnosis using testing equipment and technical documentation
- Applying workplace health and safety practices
- Working effectively in a team environment
The role within Komatsu involves working on equipment such as earthmoving, construction and mining machinery.
Holders of this qualification demonstrate strong technical knowledge, problem-solving ability and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship, making them well suited to roles within workshops, field service teams and heavy equipment operations.
