The Opportunity:

At Komatsu, you’ll join a global leader in mining and construction equipment, supporting some of the world’s most advanced machinery and technologies. Our Condition Monitoring Services (CMS) facility in Thornton, NSW, plays a critical role in helping customers maximise equipment reliability and performance, with our specialist laboratory analysing samples and providing accurate data to support smarter maintenance decisions.

As Lead Laboratory Technician, you’ll play an important hands-on role in ensuring the laboratory delivers accurate, reliable and timely results while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and efficiency. You’ll provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to laboratory personnel, coordinate workflow, maintain and monitor instrument performance, coordinate third-party repairs, and drive a strong safety culture through the maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement of safe work practices. You’ll also support the ongoing development and improvement of laboratory processes and test methods

 

The role also provides an opportunity to make a broader impact through continual improvement initiatives designed to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve quality, safety and help reduce the total cost of ownership of Komatsu equipment. You’ll work closely with all Komatsu teams, customers and suppliers while supporting the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.

What we are looking for:

 

We’re looking for a technically capable laboratory professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with leadership and organisation while maintaining a focus on both safety and quality.

You will bring:

  • Proven expertise in laboratory testing techniques, instrumentation, and methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels.
  • Championing a strong safety culture and safe work practices
  • Drive quality control, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency
  • Strong hands-on, team-focused approach with the ability to lead, support and develop others.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to priorities competing demands, work efficiently under pressure, and consistently meet deadlines
  • A tertiary qualification in a scientific/laboratory discipline.
  • Experience in hydrocarbon chemistry (highly desirable but not essential)
  • Advanced computer skills.
